History
We were founded by Dr. John Wilson and a small group of his friends in 1888 in Louisville, Kentucky, as a social club. Today our Fraternal organization has branched from being an American Fraternal Organization to International to include Canada, Great Britain and Bermuda.
The Moose Fraternity is “An International organization of men and women dedicated to caring for young and old, bringing communities closer together and celebrating life.”
Who would not want to be part of something like that? We provide hope to children in need at Mooseheart, a 1,000 acre community located in the Fox River Valley, 40 miles west of Chicago, Illinois. Our “Child City” residents receive a quality education and vocational training while living in an environment that stresses stability, compassion and understanding.
We offer a special world of comfort and convenience to senior members and their spouses at Moosehaven, a peaceful retirement community located in Orange Park, Florida. We add life to their years and years to their lives at our “City of Contentment.”
We place special emphasis on giving back to our communities, through a wide range of service programs. Wherever and whatever the need, we are there, giving of our time and effort to make our communities betters places in which to live.
Our Virginia Beach Moose Family Center offers a wide variety of activities in which members participate and share their interest with others such as darts, horseshoes, golf and pool, to dances and karaoke to picnics to theme parties. For the children we offer two Youth Clubs that meet monthly to establish goals and objectives whereby they raise funds, give of their time for community service and enjoy their social activities. We also have a group of members that have formed “The Golden Moose.” In order to participate in the Golden Moose, you just have to be 50 and over and pay small membership fee on an annual basis. We also have a very active Women of the Moose Chapter within our Family Center.
With over 2,100 locations and more than 1.7 million members, Moose Lodges and Family Centers provide affordable activities for members and their families.
