Women of the Moose

Who are the Women of the Moose?

The Women of the Moose, established in 1913, is a unit of Moose International, Inc. We have over 1600 Chapters throughout the United States and Canada with a membership exceeding 500,000 women.

The Women of the Moose provides social, sports, family and community service opportunities in a fraternal setting. Members of the Women of the Moose dedicate many volunteer ours to those in needs, not only in their own Chapters, but more importantly to those in their communities.

The main objectives of the Women of the Moose are to:

  • Assist in the support and maintenance of a 1,000 acre community and school in Illinois called “Mooseheart,” for babies, children and teens from throughout North America who, for whatever reason, lack a stable home.
  • Assist in the support and maintenance of a 65-acre retirement community near Jacksonville, Florida called “Moosehaven,” where depended senior members and their spouse may enjoy their golden years together in dignity, comfort and fun.
  • Conduct a myriad of community service projects that have resulted in a total value of more than $40 million annually.
  • Work together to give a helping hand to members and their families in time of need.

The International Community Service Project for the Women of the Moose is Spinoza, the bear who speaks from the heart. Bears are given by the Women of the Moose to individuals of all ages who have a need for its unconditional love and support.

In addition, the Women of the Moose play an active role in the Youth Awareness Program sponsored by the Moose fraternity. This program is designed to have high school students, who have demonstrated both academic and leadership qualities, work out methods and presentations for helping 4 to 9 year old children become aware of adverse elements in their communities to choose health and resist danger. The presentations are called Kids Talks.

Other programs that are proudly supported by the Women of the Moose include scholarship programs, toys for needy children, feeding the hungry. The Women of the Moose also provide assistance to countless national charities such as MDA, Arthritis Foundation, American Cancer and Heart Associations and veterans organizations to name just a few.
